JGR A Sense of Place

Hello alaw friends, I hope all is well with you. Here in the U.S. we are in the midst of July 4th celebrations, fireworks, cookouts and a long weekend.

Ta-da, here is the finished piece for my 'Sense of Place' alphabet.
My chosen place is the state I live in, Georgia. For those not familiar with our geography here are a few facts:

Georgia - located in the Southeastern U. S.
• Largest state East of the Mississippi River.
• Highest point: Brasstown Bald 4,784' above sea level (long hike but the view is worth it!

There are five major geographical regions of Georgia. They are the Appalachian Plateau region, the Ridge and Valley region, the Blue Ridge region, the Piedmont region, and the Coastal Plain region.

Here is the piece unfolded:
It consists of one cover panel and three letter panels. In the past, I've always worked in alphabetical order which is easy for me to keep track of. This time I worked in a more cryptic fashion so as not to give away the final piece. I must admit, it was quite a left brain project and therefore it was rather mind boggling (haha) but I think it was worth the effort.

It is constructed (as ALL of my ALAW projects have be have been) out of recycled items found in my studio. These thick cardboard panels are cut down from the backs of larger (used) sketchbooks.

COVER PANEL:
A winter sunrise photo taken from our deck-surrounded by numerous tall/mature trees.

PANEL 1:
A lovely spot on the Oostanaula River
in the Blue Ridge Mountains in N. Georgia about an hour North.

 PANEL 2:
The beach on Jekyll Island (coastal region)

Georgia has thirteen barrier islands off of its coast.
The largest of these islands is Cumberland Island - uninhabited and only accessible by boat.
Jekyll is the smallest of the barrier islands.

 PANEL 3:
Providence Canyon State Park near Columbus, GA (piedmont region) also known as
"The Little Grand Canyon"

I hope you've enjoyed this virtual tour of Georgia, thanks for visiting!
