Better late than never ...

I don't know if anyone will actually look at ALAW 2014 now that it is very much over, but here is my second alphabet, Place, finished. I took the photos ages ago but have been a bit slow getting them off the camera.

So my little 'pizza' letters now sit in a box.

It's been great fun participating in this project - thank you to all and especially Fiona.

. . .  and this is a ps!

I had this idea, then ALAW came to a close. So I thought I would do it anyway. Below is the finished alphabet. It was done with a piece of comb and ink to created the letters, then a stamp of dots for texture. Each letter is done on a piece of paper from my collection of odds and sods - I managed to find enough different ones to create a rainbow effect and each colour is only used once. Then I went looking for some clip rings - I loved Fiona's little book that uses them.

Thank you all -
forever,

Next instalment of Place letters

I seem to be having trouble producing 'a letter a week' this year! I have spurts where I get a fair bit done and then do nothing - although I do a lot of thinking in between. I have just had two lovely weeks holiday which has helped this time.

Anyway, here are my letters finished. The application of the letters ended up not being such a big thing -  I love using the ruling pen - so I did.

For contrast I have overlaid a Helvetica capital over each of the little 'pizzas' then printed them digitally on Canson paper. Then I tried coloured inks over the top with the ruling pen but they bled terribly. So I went back to black - very graphic as usual. Maybe I'll go all out on the covers!

The finished presentation will be a small concertina book in a box, the top and bottom of which will be the covers.

Everyone's work is looking fabulous. I love looking through when I haven't been on for a while to see the progress - great stuff!

Place

Well, I work in a library and all around there are letters! I love working there as a designer/community information library assistant. I am surrounded by books - I am in heaven!

So I have taken photos of the spines of the fiction collection from A to Z, eg,

then I had a play with them in photoshop with the polarising feature and came up with:

They look like little pizzas!

I now have to work out how to apply the letter to each one, keeping in mind that I have to have a final presentation in mind - oh, so much to do!

Finished 'free' alphabet

This is really my dotty one from a couple of years ago that didn't eventuate at the time, but had to be done! Here is the finished product - a small book case.

In the end I decided not to put anything extra on the cover of each, but used small letter stamps on the spine of each volume to show which letter it is. This helps to be able to put them back in order if they are taken out.

Now I must get on with 'Place', which has been started, but not resolved as yet.

All the ALAW alphabets are looking fabulous. It's really interesting to see what ideas people have - I'm looking forward to the next lot,

not so confuzed now it's done!

Last letters for first alphabet

Here is the end of Alphabet 1. However, I am still working not the finished article. A box has been constructed to house my little books but hasn't been covered yet.

I'm still thinking about whether or not to add anything to the finished letters - although it's looking less likely now.

I'm quite pleased with the 'Z'.

Every time I saw Fiona at SSiW I felt guilty, and now I see she has finished hers. I will get there!

All the alphabets are looking great - it's so fascinating to see the finished presentations.

I'll be back soon with mine,

May letters

Here are this month's letters. Still having trouble controlling the intensity of the ink, but when they are all together there is lots of texture going on.

I haven't done much on the box for them yet - so much going on at present.

Wonder husband and I have a group exhibition opening this week - we are collaborating on some sculptures and prints. I'm adding the letters! Altogether there are 14 of us and we have only seen a couple of the other works that will be in it. A great surprise is in store!

that's it for now,

March is gone and April is fast disappearing too!

My goodness, how time flies, as they say. Here are the next two lots for March and April.

Ok, I'm not sure I'm getting the intensity of spatter right, but I think it adds to the interest. There is quite a difference in the negative and positive shapes, especially the K compared to the P.

I have started making a box for them all to go in - like a little book shelf - and I haven't given up the idea of putting something else on each letter. I'm still thinking.

Till next month,
Meg (confuzed)
