I am a full time volunteer at our local no-kill cat shelter and so that is my "Place".  I am not a calligrapher by any means but love the sensual roundness of Uncials, very cat-like.  I had planned on using real breed names, one for each letter, but not all letters have cat breeds.  So I went to my dictionary and found words that were interesting and/or had definitions that could describe a breed.  I admit I had a lot of fun doing that part.  The silhouettes  are hand embossed, the letter drawn, and breed name written on front.  On the back is a short description--Elflock, corded fur; Foison, strong and powerful; Gambado; long white stockings; Karooian, of southern Africa.  These could be used as flash cards for learning the names.  I haven't decided yet how they will be packaged
I'm hoping something will come to me at some odd moment.  Thanks for looking,  Anita

  1. What a great idea! The embossed cat seems to be looking up at the letter as well. It will be a very striking set of letters.

  2. You claim not to be a calligrapher but I think your lettering is beautiful.Wow! and thank you for helping to improve my vocabulary. I'd never heard any of these words. Looking forward to the next set.

    1. Thank-you for the compliments. When looking up the words I didn't want all of them to be from the front of each letter listing so sometimes I started looking from the end of the word list and sometimes from the middle.

  3. One of the things I love about this wee project is that it lets us play and explore - and the lovely time you had looking for alphabet-words makes me smile! I often get carried away with an odd side trip with this project. Like Maya I am keen to learn more words so please keep including the definitions - thanks!

    1. Thanks for your kind words. I will try to post some more in the next few days. Seems like we have more snow coming. While wandering our snowy neighborhood, I came across an idea for the next alphabet. Good brain exercise.
